new moon storytime & yoga nidra sessions
MONTHLY CLASS online, Jan 22nd; Feb 19th, Mar 19th, Apr 16th. 7:00-8:15pm
In the true spirit of the dark moon, you will be guided to go deeply inside, into the warm darkness of your own interior, for a practice of deep rest, rejuvenation, and reclamation of more of your own light. The session begins with a short story relevant for the time of year, intended to support connection to our deeper selves, to the land and to the season, as well as to ease you into a state of listening pleasure. Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep. The technique brings the practitioner into a state of deep relaxation that can be likened to sleeping with awareness. Time, space and our usual mental patterns melt away, allowing for brain activity to slow down and for the body to enter a healing state. It is said that one hour of Yoga Nidra "sleep" can yield the same benefits as four hours of normal sleep. It is a very systematic practice where the consciousness is guided through layers of the mental, physical and energetic bodies, to arrive into an expanded spiritual state where release and receipt can happen in a way that is unhindered by the rigid structures of the mind and body. JANUARY's STORY: In honor of the first new moon as this new year is birthed, I told a short story on the death and rebirth cycle as revealed in the 4,000 year old tale of "The Descent of Inanna Into the Underworld", featuring the Goddess sisters Inanna and Ereshkigal. It is a rich story, with many layers of interpretation and learning. FEBRUARY's STORY: Who else, but Brigid, the Celtic Goddess and Christian Saint. Her legacy lives on today as she stands for women who stand for truth, justice, perseverance and transformation. St. Brigid's Day, February 1st, was just this year named officially as a public holiday in Ireland MARCH's STORY: In honor of the spring equinox we took a wander through the wild and wonderful world of creation stories. Rich in symbolism, creation stories can offer us a place to park some meaning for our human experience as the ones created to bridge the divide between the gods and goddesses of the earth and those of the the heavens. |
